The envoy gave the commendation when a delegation from the airline, led by Director of Administration Mr Linus Awute, paid him a courtesy visit at the Ghana High Commission in Abuja last Wednesday.

The visit formally welcomed the diplomat to Nigeria and extended the goodwill of the airline’s board and management.

The meeting carried special significance, as United Nigeria Airlines operated High Commissioner Abu’s inaugural flight into Nigeria to assume his diplomatic duties.

Conveying warm regards on behalf of UNA Executive Chairman, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Mr Awute highlighted the Chairman’s long-standing relationship with Ghanaian President John Mahama, reaffirming the carrier’s commitment to deepening historic bilateral ties. Awute also pointed out the vital role Ghanaian nationals play within UNA’s workforce, emphasising that their contribution to operational excellence and safety reflects the strong people-to-people bonds between both nations.

Responding, H.E. Abu expressed gratitude for the warm gesture and praised UNA’s service delivery, signalling his desire to forge a deeper working relationship with the carrier.

Looking ahead, the High Commissioner invited UNA to partner with the diplomatic mission for Ghana’s upcoming 70th Independence Anniversary on March 6, 2027.

He also proposed developing a tailored corporate travel package for High Commission staff, alongside streamlined support for official cargo handling.

The UNA delegation welcomed the proposals and pledged to explore key areas of cooperation.

Presenting a commemorative gift to the diplomat, Awute reaffirmed the airline’s core philosophy, “Flying to Unite,” and assured that UNA will continue to leverage its regional connectivity to drive diplomatic, economic, and cultural integration across West Africa.
